Bacon Blue Burgers

These are delicious burgers made with crumbled blue cheese and bacon pieces right in the meat. They are topped with carmelized onions and barbecue sauce, then served on a pretzel bun.

The first time I had a really great burger was in cottage country at a small place called Weber's on Highway 11 just north of Orillia, Ontario. They were only open in the summer and the lines were always huge but, it was always worth the wait. Then there was a little store in the beaches called Lick's. In the early 80's that store was their only location and again the lines were always down the street. They were special, they were not a part of a big chain and they had the magic of preparing real burgers and loving what they did. When you make your own burgers they are always special because you make them with love for the people you feed.

You will need:

  • 1/2 pound of ground beef
  • 1/2 pound of ground pork
  • 1/2 -3/4 cup crumbled blue cheese
  • 4 slices bacon (chopped)
  • 1 onion- sliced
  • your favourite barbecue sauce
  • pretzel buns
  • salt and pepper

Always start with the best quality meat and products you can find.

Step 1: add beef and pork to a bowl

Step 2: slice and fry bacon. Drain and chop a bit more once cooked. Set aside to cool.

Step 3: fry sliced onions on low-med heat until carmelized and sweet.

Step 3: crumble blue cheese and add chopped bacon to meats and gently mix and form into patties. Do not handle too roughly this will make the burgers tough.

Step 4: grill burgers. Make sure you always have a spray bottle to douse any flames. Do not burn your beautiful burgers after all your efforts.

Come on! Why would you ever buy a pre-made burger?
